Synechron, the global digital transformation consulting firm, is pulling back the curtains and giving you a sneak peek at how three of its North America recruitment leads do what they do best – recruit best-in-class, skilled technology talent. Come on in and find out what our recruitment practices are like. Then be sure to catch some of their top tips for negotiations and how to win the hearts of top recruiters.

Where do Synechron’s recruiters start?

Once a clean and crisp job description is in hand, they identify the key attributes desired in a technology candidate, and work with hiring managers to define the specific job requirements. They then utilize an omni-channel strategy to advertise for and source qualified candidates from employee referrals, professional networks, job boards, social media posts and respondents to career web postings.

Key next steps include the recruiter screening resumes and doing a profile evaluation to find a potential fit, then contacting a potential candidate to understand the person’s interest and skills, and explain the job requirements and the process. This can usually be done through a phone screening. A technical interview often follows, says Zahir Mulla, Associate Director, Talent Acquisition at Synechron, NY, to have a candidate talk with a technical panel to assess a candidate’s experience utilizing real-time scenarios to gauge the candidate’s abilities.

What other key things do Synechron recruiters do? “We treat candidates as you would stakeholders,” said Baseer Qidwai, Associate Director, Talent Acquisition North America, Synechron, Toronto, Canada. ”A recruiter must be able to set the right expectation that will yield desired results.” A quick conversation to understand the candidate and assess a fit is best followed by meeting face-to-face, he added. “That will make a huge difference and should increase the chances for a better connection with candidates.”

What qualities does Synechron most look for in a candidate?

Beyond the expected technical skills, and domain and financial technologies expertise, Synechron’s recruiters seek full-cycle project and implementation experience and enterprise-level project experience, as well as expecting them to detail their prior roles and responsibilities. Beyond technical skills, other soft skills must be demonstrated, including a great work ethic and a positive attitude, ingenuity, integrity and general curiosity, as well as a thirst for learning more, said these recruiters.

What are your best tips for negotiating with a recruiter at a company like Synechron for a higher salary, better title or different location?

“Build your case, stay positive and demonstrate clarity,” said Zahir Mulla. “Share with the recruiter up front your aspirations, and be honest as you give examples,” added Raj Choure Director, Talent Acquisition at Synechron, Charlotte, NC. Just remember to look at the big picture, explained Baseer Qidwai. “The candidate must look at the whole package that is offered and not just the salary, location or, for that matter, the job title. A candidate can negotiate with the recruiter for flexible working hours, growth opportunities, more responsibilities for independently handling a project, and additional yearly time off.”

What is your best tip(s) for making a technology recruiter positively fall in love with you and want to hire you?

From a practical perspective, keep your resume reasonably sized, and provide deeper details about your specific roles and responsibilities rather than just having a summary, noted Raj Choure. Also be sure to demonstrate your honesty, flexibility and good communication skills which “…are the building blocks for a good employer-employee relationship,” said Baseer Qidwai. Perhaps most importantly, “Be enthusiastic, willing to share your accomplishments/successes rather than just your skills, and be conversational,” summed up Zahir Mulla.
