In the arena of tech employment, there are the varsity players such as California, Virginia, Texas, New York and Florida. But five other fast-growing states have a desire to get in the game: Maryland and Massachusetts top the list for growth, both up nearly six percent in 2012. Minnesota is aiming to be a top-five tech state by 2020, Oregon's average tech salary is greater than $80,000, and Utah over-indexes in software at close to 1.5 times the national rate.
