Wouldn't it be great if you had a box that configured, commissioned and decommissioned network switches for you? That's the promise of the ProgrammableFlow PF5240 switch, which won the Best of Interop award in the Infrastructure category. The goal of the device is to create a more flexible configuration by taking software out of the switch and putting it in the programmable flow controller, says Atsushi Iwata, Senior Manager IP Network Division at NEC. The programmable flow switch allows IT managers to hot swap and automatically configure new switches for routing, traffic control, and topology discovery.
