Ikea was said to be getting into the home-building business by previewing an "Aktiv" model at the Portland Home & Garden Show. Now, alas, The Wall Street Journal says it's not true. By way of explanation, the company said its Portland store collaborated with ideabox, an Oregon prefab home manufacturer that's selling a model filled with Ikea products. One of the homes was displayed at the show. This is too bad. Ikea stuff's a bargain for the price, and the $86,500 price tag for the Aktiv struck me as a reasonable for a house, even a small one. It would let you be frugal and metro cool all at once. Aktiv Aktiv Living Room Aktiv Kitchen Images: ideabox
