When you interview with a hiring manager, do you sit there and wonder what they think of you? Of course you do. That’s why we arranged a mock interview with a sound designer and a hiring executive at Turbine, a developer of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, wholly owned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Participating in the interview are Sound Designer Tyler Piersall, who previously worked as an audio assistant at now-defunct LucasArts, and Craig Alexander, Turbine’s Vice President of Product Development. The interview, as well as some analysis and feedback, was videotaped at this summer’s E3. Piersall supplied Alexander with a one-page resume that listed his skills up top, followed by professional experience and then software abilities. As Alexander noted, it would be worth Piersall’s time to update it with his relevant college education, even though he didn’t receive a degree. Piersall, who has six years of sound-design experience as well as skills ranging from ADR engineering to Foley recording, is currently keeping busy as a contract sound designer until he finds a full-time position.
