Email and Web security vendor AppRiver plans to set up shop in Austin, Texas, to take advantage of the area’s rich pool of software developers. The site will open Sept. 15, and the Florida-based company plans to hire 12 team members by the end of the year. “To sharpen our competitive edge, we need the best talent available and we think Austin is where we’ll find a lot of it,” CEO Michael Murdoch said in announcing the move. Founded in 2002, AppRiver provides subscription-based cloud security services for 8 million mailboxes for 45,000 businesses around the globe. The 132-employee company was recently listed as one of the best places to work by Florida Trend magazine. Its Co-Founder and CTO, Joel Smith, recently discussed the company’s focus on customer service in a piece at Forbes. Among the keys:

Recruit for fit, looking for caring, low-ego, team players, with the "responsibility gene" that makes it impossible for them to "leave a customer hanging" at the end of the day.

AppRiver also recently opened an office in Lupfig, Switzerland, to serve as headquarters for its business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
