Cloud-based email company Mimecast is expanding its U.S. footprint with new offices and plans to hire more than 100 people by the end of the year. The UK firm has opened regional offices in Dallas and Chicago and expanded its San Francisco office. Of the new hires, the company estimates 30 percent will be in IT, with positions ranging from software engineers to developers to network administrators, a company spokeswoman told Dice News. The expansion is designed to support Mimecast’s channel partners and customers, as well as grow its business handling email archiving, hosting and security. The additional employees will bring Mimecast’s headcount to more than 200 people in the U.S., which will account for 35 percent of its global workforce. “Mimecast has seen incredible customer, partner, revenue and employee growth within the U.S.,” says Mark Bilbe, Mimecast’s U.S. general manager. “We are very proud of what our team has achieved so far and we see considerable opportunity to grow in the future.” Demand for cloud-based email is expected rise over the next several years, with the adoption rate among enterprise companies expected to jump 10 percent in 2014 over 2012, Gartner estimates. While that double-digit gain may seem impressive, it’s half the rate Gartner had predicted back in 2011, according to a report in Forbes.
