Computer and information sciences degrees continued to climb for the second consecutive year in 2010-11, according to a recent Dice Report. Back in 2008-09, when the number of degrees bottomed out at 37,994, the country was in the midst of an economic crisis that resulted in some students delaying graduation because of financial hardships.

But since then, universities and colleges have seen a bump in the number of computer science graduates. This same trend was also evident by the Computer Research Association’s Taulbee Survey, which found that the number of U.S. undergraduates majoring in computing science soared 29.2 percent during the 2011-12 school year. The CRA said the growth could have been even higher, but it was constrained by enrollment caps set by the CS departments themselves.
