Dice Holdings snapped up Slashdot, SourceForge and FreeCode in a $20 million deal, in a move to expand its content presence, Dice announced Tuesday. Dice Holdings, parent of Dice.com, acquired the three online properties from Geeknet, which sold its online media business as part of its efforts to refocus its business on growing its ThinkGeek. The online properties generated a total of $20 million in revenues last year. "The acquisition of these premier technology sites fits squarely into our strategy of providing content and services that are important to tech professionals in their everyday work lives," says Scot Melland, Dice Holdings CEO. "The SourceForge and Slashdot communities will enable our customers to reach millions of engaged tech professionals on a regular basis and significantly extends our company's reach into the global tech community." Slashdot is a popular website that posts user-generated IT news and analysis and reaches 3.7 million unique visitors a month. SourceForge serves the open source community, as a means for developing, downloading, reviewing and publishing open source software, with a reach of 40 million unique monthly visitors. Freecode, meanwhile, is one of the largest indexes of Linux, Unix and cross-platform software.
