It’s meant to be used by smartphones, which can now be able to display an amazing 440 PPI pixel density. This is impressive when compared with LG’s competitors: The iPhone 4 S screen offers 330 PPI, Samsung Galaxy Nexus 316 PPI, HTC Rezound has 342 PPI.
The technology behind LCD is based on Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS for short) panels that can reproduce the “original color of images highly precisely, and feature a wide viewing angle as well as stable display image and rapid response speed when touched.”

It’s a major breakthrough because it will allow users to interact with a smartphone that has the same quality as an HDTV or Monitor. The panel will offer a 16:9 aspect ratio and, compared to the previous 4.5-inches panel (which supported 329 PPI at 1280 x 720), will be 2.2 times denser in pixels and 1.3 times more advanced in PPIi.
LG wants to release the panel sometime during 2012’s the second half, and will showcase it for the first time during SID 2012 Display Week in Boston on June 4.
