Ghost Recon has a new battlefield and it's called Facebook. Ubisoft is venturing into new territory with its popular franchise of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, offering a free version of the game on the social network. The company is hoping to leverage its hard core gamers, who pay $60 for the console game version of Ghost Recon Future Soldier, to try out its companion version. The free Facebook game -- Ghost Recon Commander -- is designed to be "a gamer’s game." The move to Facebook underscores Ubisoft's belief that hardcore games can integrate seamlessly with social gaming. Few game companies have released these games on Facebook, due to the technical limitations of Adobe Flash and its casual player demographics. Ubisoft promises the Facebook version will be a multi-player experience that is similar to the console version, but still easy enough for a casual gamer. The game is truly social, since players recruit friends as “Ghosts,” or elite soldiers with specialties such as sniping or explosives. If you want a job done right, you can hire high-ranking friends for missions. If you hire low-level friends, they might hire you back so that your soldier can get more experience. The Facebook game may not feature all the blood and gore found on the console version, but it still holds true to the violent spirit of the Ghost Recon franchise. “It’s not super gory, but we didn’t want to dumb it down for the Facebook audience,”  Brenda Garno Brathwaite, the game's lead designer, told Games Beat. “As a 43-year-old female, I am the Facebook audience. I like the look of the landscape because you can either blow it up or vacation there.” Here's the game's trailer:
