PEOPLE MOVES:

Microsoft has appointed former Cisco executive Laura Ipsen as vice president of its $8 billion Worldwide Public Sector organization. At Cisco, Ipsen served as senior vice president and general manager of the Connected Energy Networks business. Craig Silverstein, Google’s first hired employee after Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and who’s credited with creating its search engine, is leaving for an unspecified position at education startup Khan Academy. Google has hired away Apple’s senior director of product integrity, Simon Prakash, for an unspecified role. Law firm Goodwin Procter has named Lorey Hoffman as CIO. Hoffman comes from Akin Gump, where he had been CIO since 2008. Solutionz Conferencing, a Brentwood, Calif.-based integrator and specialist in videoconferencing, unified communications and managed services, named Thomas B. Johnston to be its new chief operating officer. Johnson is a former president of Polycom's Americas region. Vaccine maker PaxVax Corp. has named Thomas P. Monath, M.D., as CTO.  Monath has spent his nearly 30-year career in the fight against infectious disease through his work in the military, corporate, academic and investment sectors. Also named to the management team: Nima Farzan as executive vice president and chief operating officer and Jonathan F. Smith as executive vice president and chief scientific officer. Cognizant Technologies has promoted former CFO and COO Gordon Coburn to president. Also promoted: Rajeev Mehta to group chief executive, industries and markets; Chandra Sekaran, group chief executive, technology and operations; Karen McLoughlin to CFO.  Malcolm Frank moves up to become executive vice president, strategy and marketing.
