Salesforce, the CRM and cloud giant, named Vivek Kundra as executive vice president of emerging markets. Kundra, the former U.S. CIO, left his federal government role last June to take a fellowship at Harvard University.
Lt. Gen. Michael Basla will become CIO of the U.S. Air Force when Lt. Gen. Bill Lord retires on July 31. Basla comes from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, where he is vice commander of the Air Force Space Command.
Former Microsoftie Bill Veghte, now executive vice president of software at HP, also is assuming the role of chief strategy officer as it tackles cloud computing and efforts to distribute WebOS software as open source.
AlienVault, creator of open source security information software OSSIM, has hired Barmak Meftah as president and CEO and Roger Thornton as CTO. They were principals at Fortify Software, which was bought out by HP in 2010. Julio Casal, AlienVault co-founder and CEO, will become general manager of the managed security service provider business unit and Dominique Karg, co-founder and CTO, will lead the OSSIM community as chief hacking officer. Also making the move are Jim Yares, Richard Kirk, John Richardson and Jack Marshall, all execs from HP Fortify, and Gail Boddy, who was vice president of human resources at HP ArcSight, another 2010 HP acquisition.
Neil Ashe, former president of CBS Interactive, will lead Walmart‘s global online commerce unit as president and CEO. His purview will not include the U.S. online business. That’s headed by Joel Anderson.
AMD has hired former Intel engineer and McKinsey partner Rajan Naik as senior vice president and chief strategy officer.
SmartGridCIS, which provides smart grid utility technology, has announced that Mark Adkins will join the company as vice president of product development and William Brumbelow as vice president of engineering. Both were partners at professional services firm Osadio USA.
dunnhumby Ltd., which focuses on building brand value for consumer goods and retail companies, has appointed Yael Cosset to the role of global CIO. Cosset will retain his responsibilities as CEO of KSS Retail, a dunnhumby company.
Dell has announced that Adriana Karaboutis has assumed the role of Global CIO. Karaboutis was previously vice president of IT at Dell supporting product groups, manufacturing, procurement and supply chain operations.
Zynga has hired another top Electronic Arts executive, Barry Cottle as executive vice president for business and corporate development. He was executive vice president of EA Interactive, with responsibility for mobile, social and casual online games. Joey Knight also has joined Zynga as quality assurance lead. He was in quality assurance at ArenaNet.
Zappos has named Brian Hoying as manager of business intelligence systems. He previously worked as IT supervisor for the Las Vegas Valley Water District.
Enterprise communication system vendor Avaya has filled these positions:
- Peter Musgrave is senior tech manager, client platform. He was vice president of software development for Magor Communications Corp.
- Pete Gibson is now senior manager. He was director of quality labs at Solyndra.
- Diego Sayago is technical support manager. He previously was technical leader at Avaya.
Game maker Electronic Arts has made these moves:
- Mary Franchetti is QA manager – world wide customer experience.
- Travis Wampler is games label team supervisor. He was corporate retail and logistics manager at Steve Jackson Games.
- Jennifer Williams is senior QA test lead.
John Fernandez is now senior specialist systems administrator for AT&T.
Ali Raissina is now senior director of technology for chipmaker Qualcomm.
Christian Dürr is now agile project leader at eBay. He comes from Systematic, where he was system engineer.
