HP's decided to update the Envy line with a new ultrabook. So here it is: the Envy 14 Spectre, one of the first devices covered entirely by Gorilla Glass. For those who don't know, Gorilla Glass is a tough unscratchable, unshatterable material, used as a protective window for gadgets in particular. HP said that it chose "Spectre" as a name "to evoke mystery, and we packed it with the best in entertainment technology to satisfy those who expect the unexpected." The Spectre comes with a 14-inch Radiance display and a 1600 x 900 resolution, enough to give you a rich colors and great contrasts. Surprisingly for an ultrabook, it comes loaded up with a Beats by Dr. Dre high-performance sound system and an NFC chip that allows you to "touch and share" content with other NFC-capable devices. Spectre also has an integrated HP Wireless Audio feature that lets you stream uncompressed audio to up to four devices. The keyboard features back-lit keys which sense your approach and light up row by row. The image pad supports precise two and three finger interaction. Above the display there's a TrueVision HD webcam capable of "brighter, cleaner HD images." Inside are Intel Core i5 or i7 Processors along with 128GB or 256GB mSATA SSD and 4GB/8GB DDR3 of RAM, so you can enjoy both speed and stability. As for connectivity, you've got an HDMI, SD card reader, USB 3.0 Ports, Mini DisplayPort and Wi-Fi. HP says that this gorgeous ultrabook has a battery life of up to nine hours. It sounds too good to be true, but don't forget one thing: The Envy 14 Spectre ultrabook will cost $1,399.99. It's expected to be available in U.S. beginning February 8.
