Contrary to earlier reports, Blogger will not be included in Google's effort to re-brand some of its non-Google brands. A source familiar with the Blogger division told GigaOM "the search giant has no plans to send the Blogger brand on its way." Earlier, Mashable reported that Google would retire the Blogger and Picasa brands in favor of Google Blogs and Google Photos -- an initiative to unify things for Mountain View's newborn, Google+. Launched just a few months after LiveJournal in 1999, Blogger is one of the oldest blogging platforms around. It's still well-recognized and widely used. Its parent company, Pyra Labs, was acquired by Google in 2003 and Blogger has been sailing under Google's flag since then -- all while retaining its name and logo. Google has yet to comment on any of this, but if the reports hold any truth, we shall see some changes in the next six weeks. Source: GigaOM
