A fiber network has lots of advantages, such as the ability to send secure data over long distances. That would be great if you weren't still stuck with copper. At Interop, Transition Networks showed off a couple of new devices that are able to use fiber in copper-only networks. The first is Transition Network's ION platform for copper-to-fiber media conversion. It allows you to introduce fiber into networks that have copper-based switches and routers. The second is the Power over Ethernet (PoE) media converter, which also injects power over the copper line to power up IP cameras, IP phones or wireless access points.
