Sometimes you just can't win. First, the dating site BeautifulPeople.com gets hacked, and the result is the incursion of 30,000 ordinary folks. Then, apparently, the site had to apologize for kicking those same less-than-perfect people out, and its managing director -- for the life of his beautiful self -- couldn't find a graceful way to do it. Oh, and security experts don't believe any kind of hack ever happened. This works on so many levels. Greg Hodge, the site's MD, and obviously a guy with no self-awareness, said:

"We have to stick to our founding principles of only accepting beautiful people – that's what our members have paid for," said Greg Hodge, managing director of BeautifulPeople.com. "We can't just sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet."

"Principles" don't allow him to "sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet." Yeah, those are principles alright. Also, just so you know:  The site bumped 5,000 people last year when they put on weight over Christmas. By the way, guess which picture represents Mr. Hodge: This or this. PC Magazine notes that the cynics at Naked Security don't buy any of it.

The website explains that it hasn't needed to inform any computer security firms about the malware as it is being "investigated internally", and a "former employee.. placed the virus before leaving the team" and "despite wreaking havoc with the application process, member privacy and security was never breached." Phew! So, lots of publicity for the website but nothing for current or future members to worry about then. How convenient!

I don't know if the Naked Security people are beautiful or not, but they do get points for having "naked" in their name. When all's said and done, I find the whole thing pretty amusing. But one thing keeps bugging me: If these people are so beautiful why do they need to find each other through a freaking website?
