Tip of the Day

Obviously, you want your cover letter to get the employer's attention. But not all attention is good. For instance, you don't want your letter to be passed around as an office joke. That's the kind of attention you can live without. So, when writing your letter, play it straight. Don't try to stand out with tacky headlines that shout but don't say anything:

Stop Looking!!!

DBA Available Immediately!

Instead, use a crisp opening line like this: “After reading about ABC Company’s recent triumphs in the global marketplace, I’m certain that my diverse experience as a user experience architect can help you to maintain your positive momentum.” In that one sentence, you've demonstrated that you've researched the company and can match your skills to its goals. That's a pretty solid way to start off.
