Kansas City startup
Sporting Innovations plans to
add 60 jobs over the next 12 to 14 months. The company is looking for iOS, Android and Web developers, cloud systems engineers and user experience designers. [Dice News]
Collaboration software developer
Atlassian will increase its San Francisco IT team by 50 percent over the next year. The company, which operates dual headquarters in San Francisco and Australia, plans to add 10 people to its IT staff in the Bay Area, up from its current size of 20 people. [Dice News] Office products retailer
Staples will open a
development center in Seattle. The company’s first West Coast office will focus on ecommerce and engineering projects including digital platforms, personalization solutions and Big Data tools. The company will hire software developers, product managers and experts in usability, analytics and online merchandising. [Dice News] Insurance company
Geico is seeking
college graduates to enter its new three-year Technology Development Program based at the company’s headquarters in suburban Washington, D.C. The full-time program is designed to give participants a “well-rounded experience within IT at Geico,” it says. [Dice News]
Startup game developer Shiver Entertainment, flush with funding from
Nexon, is
hiring. The Miami-based company is adding people at all levels in the development process for free-to-play games. [VentureBeat]
Layoffs
Brocade is cutting
7 percent of its workforce and closing several facilities, in a move to trim $100 million in costs before its fiscal year closes on Oct. 31. The layoffs will affect nearly 300 of the company's global staff of 4,180. [Slashdot] Connecticut’s
Northeast Utilities is reportedly planning to
streamline its IT department by outsourcing hundreds of positions, according to the Hartford Courant. Although the company wouldn’t confirm whether such plans are on the table, workers claim that NU could eliminate most of its estimated 400 IT jobs in New England. [Dice News] Smartphone maker
HTC plans to cut 30 employees in order to achieve efficiencies and optimize operations. The layoffs represent 20 percent of its U.S. workforce. [Dice News]
Rhapsody International is planning to cut 15 percent of its U.S. workforce. The move will affect approximately 30 to 75 workers. [Dice News]
Sony Online Entertainment has cut 70 jobs from its San Diego headquarters, according to a filing with the state of California. The cuts include Artists, Game Designers, Programmers, Project Managers and a Creative Director, as well as Human Resources, Payroll and Community Relations staffers. [Dice News]
