In May, GoDaddy broke ground on a 150,000-square-foot Tempe, Ariz., facility that will eventually house 1,300 employees including engineers, developers and customer service staff. It plans to add 300 positions there once the facility is complete next year. In April, the company opened an office in Seattle for around 60 people. At the time, Irving told Dice News he wants to tighten the company’s focus on engineering as it scales to grow internationally and provide small companies with the software and services needed to run online businesses. GoDaddy likes people who have focused expertise, he said. “We want mobile engineers to be the best in mobile and to have focused on that for some time. If you’re a Big Data person, we want you to have worked with Big Data not just in one system, but different kinds. We want somebody who has worked in SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop.” GoDaddy has already lured talent away from tech giants, including Chief Architect Arnold Blinn after 17 years at Microsoft, Yahoo's former vice president of engineering Elissa Murphy, and former general manager of hosting and security Jeff King, who came from eBay.
