Web-hosting company GoDaddy is preparing to open a new office in Sunnyvale, Calif., in order to accommodate an influx of new hires. The company now has about 100 open positions across the country, including spots for Web engineers in Silicon Valley, network engineers in Scottsdale, Ariz., and developers in Denver. Go DaddyGoDaddy opened the Sunnyvale office -- its first in the San Francisco Bay Area -- in February with 40 people. By June, that number had doubled as it built out its product and technology teams. Among the new workplace's offerings, the company's hyping a gourmet café, indoor basketball and volleyball facilities, a gym, a swimming pool and a climbing wall. Part of its hiring strategy, said CEO Blake Irving, is to open offices in tech-heavy areas like Silicon Valley and Seattle. In May, GoDaddy broke ground on a 150,000-square-foot Tempe, Ariz., facility that will eventually house 1,300 employees including engineers, developers and customer service staff. It plans to add 300 positions there once the facility is complete next year. In April, the company opened an office in Seattle for around 60 people. At the time, Irving told Dice News he wants to tighten the company’s focus on engineering as it scales to grow internationally and provide small companies with the software and services needed to run online businesses. GoDaddy likes people who have focused expertise, he said. “We want mobile engineers to be the best in mobile and to have focused on that for some time. If you’re a Big Data person, we want you to have worked with Big Data not just in one system, but different kinds. We want somebody who has worked in SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop.” GoDaddy has already lured talent away from tech giants, including Chief Architect Arnold Blinn after 17 years at Microsoft, Yahoo's former vice president of engineering Elissa Murphy, and former general manager of hosting and security Jeff King, who came from eBay. Based in Scottsdale, the 3,400-person company has offices in four other Arizona locations, plus Colorado, Iowa, India, Canada, Singapore and the Netherlands.
