Hiring
Apple could hire up to 7,400 people at its Cupertino, Calif., campus by 2016, boosting its headcount by 50 percent. This hiring binge comes as the company seeks to expand its facilities with a new, larger campus in Silicon Valley. [Dice News]
Google plans to hire 75 people for the Shopping Operations team in its Pittsburgh office. The office is largely comprised of engineers and the new hires will bring its headcount to 350. The team categorizes and organizes online shopping results. [The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review] Cloud-based email company
Mimecast is expanding its U.S. footprint and plans to hire more than 100 people by the end of the year. The UK firm has opened regional offices in Dallas and Chicago and expanded in San Francisco. Of the new hires, the company estimates 30 percent will be in IT, with positions ranging from software engineers to developers to network administrators. [Dice News]
Answers, a St. Louis-based "knowledge exchange" that operates the Answers.com website, is
looking to hire 27 Web developers, data center engineers, expert content editors and platform developers in the next 90 to 100 days. Currently, the company employs 225 people. [Dice News] As part of its Southern California expansion,
Boeing plans to hire 300 engineers in Long Beach for servicing its older commercial airplanes that are out of production. The aircraft titan also plans to open a local design center, where work on its future airplanes will be done. [Orange County Register]
Layoffs
NetApp is cutting 235 people from its Sunnyvale office by July 16. The layoffs are part of a workforce reduction announced in late May when the company reported its fourth quarter financial results. [Dice News] Security vendor
Symantec plans to lay off 62 people from its Mountain View location by July 18. The company previously announced a workforce restructuring that would be completed by end of June. [Dice News]
Intuit is cutting nine people on July 29 from three of its offices. It will lay off six people from Menlo Park, one person from Mountain View and two people in San Diego. [Dice News]
