The latest government job report told a pretty good story about women in technology, showing that their unemployment rate in the industry dropped to 3.3 percent in July, compared to 6.8 percent in May 2011. It's also closer to tech's unemployment rate for men, which stood at 3.0 percent in July, and 2.3 percent last May. The question, of course, is whether this will continue. While it's true that women occupy a number of top spots in tech companies -- Marissa Mayer at Yahoo, Virginia M. Rometty at IBM and Meg Whitman at Hewlett-Packard come to mind -- it still seems that when you walk into an IT shop, women are far outnumbered by their male colleagues.
