Open Stack, like other cloud initiatives, use object storage vs NAS or SAN storage. Legacy systems that have been looking into cloud storage have realized that storage changes can be challenging, since access to object storage is via an API instead of the familiar NAS interface. Things may be changing in cloud storage. This week Maldivica announced the launch of their Storage Connector for Open Stack.  The Maldivica Storage Connector is promising to make object storage now universally accessible using a NAS interface, which would eliminate the need to program against an API to take advantage of the Open Stack object storage architecture. It’s exciting to be in an area that is changing so rapidly. According to IBM, “Every day, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data – so much that 90 percent of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone.” This data explosion and the consequent large complex data sets have been termed Big Data.
