Technology executives plan to continue hiring during the second quarter, but mostly at the same rate as they did during the first part of the year. Eighty five percent plan no change in the pace of bringing in new people, compared to 70 percent last quarter. Only a net 3 percent expect to increase hiring (8 percent expect to do more, minus the 5 percent who said they expect to do less.) Still, 87 percent were either "somewhat or very optimistic" about their companies' growth prospects in the next three months. The numbers come from Robert Half's IT Hiring Index and Skills Report. The skills most in demand:
  • Networking (16 percent reported challenges)
  • IT Security (15 percent)
  • Help Desk/Tech Support (14 percent)
  • Applications Development (13 percent)
  • Data/Database Management (10 percent)
