Nashville's Chamber of Commerce announced a task force to cultivate IT professionals in the region as part of an effort to bolster the tech workforce there.. This is just one small part of a larger effort by city officials, who have spent about two years trying to get Google into the area. In some ways it's working, since Google employees attended a recent one-day workshop with middle Tennessee entrepreneurs, coders and content creators. Google employees also recently attended HackNashville. A report by the Nashville Technology Council in January found 1,044 tech-related jobs were open in Middle Tennessee during the fourth quarter of 2011. Indeed, Nashville-area employers now are seeking recruits in application development, business intelligence, unified communications and more. Healthcare systems led the way and local employers in the field included Vanderbilt University, United Health Group, Community Health Systems and HCA. Indeed, local health care organizations want to showcase how IT is being used to improve the delivery of healthcare at the Nashville Health Innovation Exchange in June.
