The Federal government's CIO says the growth rate of its data centers is "unsustainable," so he's going to shut down 800 of them. Testifying before a Senate subcommittee, Vivek Kundra noted the government gone from 432 data centers to 2,094 since 1998, which is a 385 percent increase. He plans to shut down the 800 by 2015. Kundra's strategy for cutting IT spending include using light technologies, better project management, and working more closely with industry. Tom Carper (D-Del.) pointed that out in his opening remarks. Source: ZDNet
